Girls on the Run Louisville 5K Event on May 14, 2016
LOUISVILLE, May 10, 2016– Girls on the Run Louisville is hosting its biannual 5K Event at Waterfront Park on Saturday May 14, 2016, at 12:30 p.m. The 5K is the culminating event for over 350 girls in Jefferson, Oldham, Bullitt and Shelby Counties who have participated in the Girls on the Run Louisville program this spring.
A non-profit organization founded in 1996, Girls on the Run is a life-changing, positive youth development program for girls in 3rd through 8th grades. The Louisville program is growing by leaps and bounds and making a big difference in how young women view their futures. Girls on the Run Louisville motivates participating girls to engage in physical activity and live healthy lifestyles, and equips them with the tools necessary to effectively manage many of the common social issues they face.
This fall, participating sites include: Brandeis Elementary, Byck Elementary, Camp Taylor Elementary, Frayser Elementary, Holy Trinity Parish School, Jacob Elementary, Kennedy Montessori School, Kenwood Elementary, Maryhurst, Maryville Elementary, Meredith Dunn School, Montessori School of Louisville, Price Elementary, Rangeland Elementary, Roosevelt Perry Elementary, Sacred Heart Model School, Saint Mary Academy, Sanders Elementary, Semple Elementary, Shelby Christian Church, Shepherdsville Elementary, St. Margaret Mary School, St. Raphael School, and Shelby West Middle School.
Girls on the Run Louisville empowers and inspires girls to be confident and to embrace their true potential. The organization’s success is centered on the positive influence of its volunteers. Girls on the Run Louisville welcomes members of the Louisville community at the 5K, both as runners and as volunteers.
The Girls on the Run Louisville 5K is the exciting finale of the season as each girl participates in this electrifying event. The 5K is open to the public and is currently accepting registration for anyone interested in participating in the race.
